Why is she laughing and I am crying?

We are looking at a picture of a tiger kitten on a small branch of a small tree, looking scared and crying for her mommy.  Bewildered by her circumstance and how to get down.  She was chased up the tree by the medium sized dog, who is sitting at the base of the tree whining because he can’t understand what the kitten is doing: making that weird noise and sitting on the branch.

Why did we have different reactions to the same photo/situation?  Our perceptions of the photo were different.  She saw a funny tail of woe.  And, I identified with fear the kitten was displaying.  How can that be?

We view the world, people and situations differently.  Each person brings their uniqueness to the table.  Their moral compass, experiences and beliefs all factor into how a person is going to react to any situation, challenge or person.

Perspective is unique and unpredictable based on all the factors that go into it for each person.  To truly love another is to accept that they have their unique perspective, and to also accept it, whether or not you agree with it.

Living from a space of love can be challenging at times.  Remember that acceptance and tolerance can help you in all of your relationships.  We won’t always agree with each other, but we can learn to use compassion and empathy to navigate challenging people and situations.

Blessings,                                                                                                                                   ~Melissa xo
